A Learn-2-Curl is a great way for anyone, age 12 and up, to get their first exposure to the Olympic sport of curling. Each lesson is approximately an hour in length and is designed to introduce people to the basics of curling. Participants will take part in physical gameplay, sweeping of the stone, and learn some of the rules and strategy used in curling. Anyone age 12 and above can Learn to Curl. Don't worry if you can't manage the traditional slide delivery due to physical challenges; we will teach you how to deliver the stone using an alternative delivery called the "stick" method.

A Learn 2 Curl session includes:

  • A brief off-ice instruction to go over the basics of curling, terminology, ice safety, and rules.
  • On-Ice instruction on how to deliver the stone, how to sweep, and basic strategy.
  • An opportunity to play an "end" or two as time allows. (An "end" is curling's equivalent to an inning or round in a game.)

Clothing:

  • Dress in layers. The on-ice temperature is between 30º- 40º F. If you normally wear a hat outside, you'll probably want to wear one while curling as well.
  • Clothing should allow freedom of movement. You need to be able to squat and lunge (blue jeans are not recommended since your movement is restricted).
  • Lightweight gloves keep your hands warm while still allowing you to feel the stone.
  • You'll be standing on ice for up to two hours so rubber-soled shoes (tennis shoes) are the best option for comfort on the ice. Boots or other shoes that come above the ankle are not recommended as they will restrict movement. Athletic shoes only, please.
    • Please note: Please carry in clean rubber-soled shoes. Dirt and salt are bad for curling ice.

 Equipment:

  • All equipment (grippers, brooms, stabilizers, sticks, etc.) will be provided by the club.

When:

  • We have two regularly scheduled Learn-2-Curl events. One being mid-January and the other usually the last weekend of October. Please check back on our website or our Facebook page for exact dates as we approach those weekends.

Where:

We currently do not have any Learn to Curl openings at this time.  Please continue to check this page and Facebook as open times and dates will be posted when available.
